“Human Memory, Dying Histories”
The exponential spread of the COVID-19 pandemic forces us, as a species, to pay closer attention to the complex interwoven threats to the basics of human rights. Bringing to light issues of health inequity, economic insecurity, environmental injustice, and collective trauma. Also making visible racism, classism, and the climate crisis shaping our lives. Is humanity experiencing a collective trauma living in the current spread of a pandemic? Has everything weve come to know as a species changed? Shaking our concepts of national security, national health, collective well-being, individuality..etc.
As we face this global pandemic and the massive numbers of human lives lost, we have grown increasingly aware of the vulnerable communities amongst us and we have become attached to our elders who are the most vulnerable to this virus. These generations who have in their memories events of colonization, geographical change, rebellions, gender liberation, how the world came to be how it is today.
We believe that with the loss of these generations of “witnesses of history” we lose chunks of our history, and power that comes with knowing one’s history. This edition will focus on oral history, archival materials, films produced by or about our collective memory in all of its layers and artistic expression.

يجبرنا الانتشار المتزايد لوباء COVID-19، على إيلاء اهتمام للتهديدات المعقدة والمتشابكة لأساسيات حقوق الإنسان. و يدفع الوضع المتفاقم عالميا إلى تسليط الضوء على قضايا عدم المساواة في الفرص الصحية، وانعدام الأمن الاقتصادي، والظلم البيئي، والصدمة الجماعية. لقد ذكرنا الوباء العالمي بالتعقيدات والاختلالات التي تكمن داخل أنظمتنا؛ كما تجعل العنصرية، وانعدام الأمن الاقتصادي والعنف القائم على النوع الاجتماعي، وأزمة المناخ أكثر وضوحًا من أي وقت مضى.
عند مواجهة صدمة اجتماعية تتحطم "أسسنا المسلم بها", تتزعزع مفاهيمنا للأمن القومي، والصحة الوطنية، والرفاهية الجماعية، والفردية، والعزلة .. إلخ. كيف يمكننا أن نبدأ الحديث عن الصدمة الجماعية التي تعاني منها البشرية الآن؟ هل تغير كل شيء عرفناه؟
في الوقت الذي نواجه فيه هذا الوباء العالمي والأعداد الهائلة من الأرواح البشرية التي فقدت، أصبحنا على وعي متزايد بمجتمعاتنا المهمشة والضعيفة. العاطلون عن العمل، وعمال المياومة، والأشخاص غير الآمنين اقتصاديًا، وأولئك الذين لا يحصلون على الرعاية الصحية المناسبة، وكبار السن. لقد أصبحنا مرتبطين بكبار السن الذين هم الأكثر عرضة للإصابة بهذا الفيروس، أي الأجيال التي شهدت التحولات الاجتماعية والسياسية العملاقة التي خلقت العالم المعاصر الذي نعرفه اليوم؛ في ذاكرة هؤلاء أحداث كثيرة، من استعمار واحتلال وانقلابات وانتفاضات وحروب أهلية وتدمير وإعادة بناء المدن وإعادة تعريف لدولنا وحدودها والانهيار الاقتصادي والانهيار البيئي والآن هذا الوباء العالمي.
نعتقد أنه مع فقدان هذه الأجيال من "شهود التاريخ" نفقد أجزاء من تاريخنا، وبالتالي نفقد القوة التي تأتي مع معرفة تاريخنا. ستركز هذه الدورة الحادية عشرة من مهرجان كرامة على التاريخ الشفوي والمواد الأرشيفية والأفلام التي أنتجت عن ذاكرتنا الجماعية بكل طبقاتها، وتضاريسها و تجلياتها في السينما.
